Staunton’s newest restaurant called The Shack opened in January, Owner/Chef Ian Boden is well-known chef in the area. He owned the former Staunton Grocery restaurant and then moved to Charlottesville to The Glass Haus Kitchen restaurant and now he is back in the area. The Staunton Grocery closed prior to us moving to Virginia but locals raved about his food especially the burgers. The Shack is an appropriate name for this restaurant because it is literally in a small red brick building that has 7 tables inside, seating 26 people. On Wednesday and Thursday nights the Shack serves only burgers with a choice side and also some “starters”.  They always have the beef and lamb burger on the menu with 2 – 3 other choice burgers for $12-$15.  Then Friday and Saturday nights, the Shack offers a pre-fixed 3 course or 4 course menu for $45 & $55. They do not take reservations due to their small size so it is first come, first serve. The tables seat 4 so you may be asked to sit with another couple. They hand write menus daily and post it on their Facebook page. It depends on local producers and farmers bounty to decide the menu. And they just started to offer wine & beer.

Shack Menu

This past Wednesday, Ray and I tried the burgers. Ray got the beef burger and I ordered the lamb (my favorite).  The beef is from Buffalo Creek Farm (Lexington) where we buy our bacon and steaks for the cottage’s grill package. The burgers were out of this world delicious! Simply amazing! We both got the homemade French Fries as sides. I usually don’t eat fries but when I saw them on a plate of food it made my mouth water. They were so good!! We can’t wait to go back again. If you are visiting us you must try The Shack.
