The smell of Fall is in the air. Our temperatures are dipping down into the 50s & 60s at night with warm, sunny days in the 70s and 80s. Gorgeous weather to take a drive or a hike in the mountains on one of Virginia’s “back roads”, the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 27, which is only 6 miles away, and drive to scenic overlooks or take woodland hikes to check out the beautiful colors of the mountains and valleys. Or just stay on Route 56 about another 7 miles to Crabtree Falls, the highest vertical-drop cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. From the parking lot you can view the falls at its base. Or hike the Falls to one of its five major cascades. It is gorgeous now and it will be a spectacular site this Fall.

The Fall season is also harvest time for apples and grapes.  Orchards and vineyards are abundant in our area and are close in proximity to the Manor.  Virginia’s orchards are at its peak. There are several located along Route 56 that you can visit to purchase fresh picked apples. The Vineyards are active with their grape harvesting. Fall is the time where many of the wineries have special events on weekends.
