Farmer for a Day

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to work on a farm? Or maybe you’re just looking to celebrate the summer bounty. Either way, you’re in luck because there are some great spots you can go to enjoy the sounds, smells and tastes of life down on the farm within a few miles from here. Whether you’re looking for produce, flowers, animals, wines or even knitting classes, we’ve got it covered…and next week is Virginia Farmers’ Market week!

From August 7-13, take some great photos of your visit to a Virginia farmers’ market, and enter your best shot to win a Virginia Grown/Virginia Finest Prize Package (valued at $100!) from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services! Or, nominate your favorite Virginia farmer’s market for the 2011 America’s Favorite Farmers’ Market  We’re proud of our farmers markets and we hope you will be, too.

Here are a few of our favorites: Orchard Side Farm, Hilltop Berry Farm & Winery (Berry Festival coming up August 6th!), Dave’s Produce (located at 14 Quarry Lane in Lexington), Lexington Farmer’s Market, and Rockbridge County Farmer’s Market.

Happy munching,
Bill and Eileen Hoernlein
