We’ve been wining again…you know, tasting some great Virginia wines, not complaining! This time, we took a wonderful trip to King’s Family Vineyards in Crozet, just 15 minutes from Charlottesville at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This winery specializes in small productions of top-notch wines that demonstrate the qualities of nearly 100% estate-grown fruit. At its inception in 1998, King Family Vineyards only produced 500 cases of wine, but today boasts more than 5,000 cases per year!
We enjoyed the covered veranda, expansive lawn, brick patio and tasting room. We also admired the fireplace, but were glad to know it would not be lit during these hot summer months! Although we had the luxury of choosing from a wide selection of chocolates, cheeses, salamis, spreads and breads, visitors are welcome to bring their own for a picnic in the beautiful outdoor or indoor gathering spaces.
Of course we had to participate in a wine tasting, led by the vineyard’s gracious and knowledgeable staff. The tasting includes six wines and a souvenir wine glass for just $5 per person! Group tastings are also available in advance.
Just as this vineyard aptly pairs wines and foods, it hosts complementary events as well. Polo matches and art displays are just a few of the unique events you will find here.
